After the show, we were all split up into teams and went straight to rehearsals to put our team dances together. I think we rehearsed till around 12:30 a.m., then I came home, packed and snoozed for an hour before going to the airport. Katherine and I flew to New York where we were booked to appear on Good Morning America and Live! with Kelly Thursday morning.
When we landed, Kat and I went straight to rehearsals to start work on our rumba. We actually got the routine done pretty quickly considering the gru eling travel schedule we had. It's a good thing I had prepared some of the choreography before going into the studio. We rehearsed till 10:30 p.m. I then had a lovely dinner with my songwriting publishers at BMG to discuss new music/album over the summer.
I got back to the hotel around 2 a.m., and crashed before waking up at 4 a.m. to head to sound check at Good Morning America. It was amazing to play guitar for such a talented vocalist as Katherine, and I really enjoyed being able to play some classical/folk music. It's been a while since I played that kind of music, and Katherine sang like an angel.
Also, it was pretty awesome to see my fellow Miss America judge and great friend Lara Spencer. She is an amazing person, and I had missed her!
It was an honor being able to perform musically alongside Katherine, and it was great to show that we can do more together than just dance. I think we are the first partnership to do a performance like this, and those of you who caught us on GMA, I hope you enjoyed it! (You can catch us on video here.)
After GMA, we went on to do Live! with Kelly where we performed our samba from last week's Motown week. Kat and I had a great time performing, and it is always a pleasure to see Kelly.
Speaking of last week: I want to just say how fun it was to make it al l the way in the dance marathon! I've never even made it to the point when the floor becomes a free-for-all, so that was my goal. But for Kat and I to win the whole thing was beyond fun and rewarding, not to mention we got to wear my favorite color too â" electric green!
Back on to this week. It is classical week, and we have rumba, which is the dance of love. The general feedback from the judges so far is that the rumbas have been a little too raunchy. We want to keep ours classy, sophisticated, elegant and passionate. Also, I am using all traditional choreography with an old classical storyline and costumes that will take you back hundreds of years. To say I'm really excited to perform this with Katherine for you all is an understatement. Another twist this week is the team tangos; we put a little twist on our theme. I think you're going to love our team!
See you Monday.
