TMZ reported just before showtime that Seacrest was feeling so sick with "a bad stomach bug" that he had an IV in his arm. Deadline reported that producers put out a call to Cat Deely to sub for him, if needed.

But he managed to pull it together and take the stage (TMZ said "puke buckets" were nearby for him). He even hugged judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez (who shimmered in a hip-baring gold pants outfit) and Steven Tyler. Not only that, but Seacrest's girlfriend, Julianne Hough, was there, too.
After supercool Phillip Phillips performed, Seacrest mentioned that Hough saw Phillips backstage. "I think she sighed and blushed and said, 'Yummy,' " said Seacrest. The cameras cut to her looking surprised and laughing at the side of the stage. "We'll be having this conversation after the show, darling," said Seacrest to Hough.
After his song, Phillips said Seacrest has nothing to worry about. "I'm not trying to steal your girl, Ryan," he said.
